Re: Mick Tucker - Sad News.
I arrived home having heard the sad news from LA and Stewart. I went to the fridge and removed a bottle of champagne. I toasted the life of THE greatest drummer of all time and then read Axey's post that made me cry.

I'm not up to words at the moment, and my site will not carry a tribute yet so don't bother looking. Stewart has put some lovely pics at the top of this page and I find it so hard to say anything that can do justice to the man who has been with me on the turntable since I first heard Funny Funny all those years ago.

I just wish my children had met him.

My Deepest Condolences Go Out To Mick’s Wife Janet and his Daughter Aiston

I First Met Mick in 1974 but it was a further ten years before I would become a friend of the greatest drummer in the world
I Toured with Mick in the late eighties and continued our friendship throughout the many years that have followed. My Memories of Mick are vast and he was always a great friend with a great sense of humour even when he was suffering.

Mick I will Miss You Mate

Re: Mick Tucker - Sad News.
I only ever met Mick once, after a gig in Wakefield in 1981(?), but I've carried him around with me ever since I first heard that unmistakable style of drumming on Desolation Boulevard. I am devestated by this sad news, it feels like I've lost a close friend and I have. RIP Mick, you were the VERY best!

A very sad day. He was a great person and I never will forget him. Thank you Mick for this great sunny day at your home in Chorleywood and for all this years of great music. Rest in peace. I also think of his family.

Re: Mick Tucker - Sad News.
Mick, you gave so much. One of the finest drummers in the world. You showed me the Ballroom Blitz intro and I still cant get the f...hang of it. One cold november evening in front of your fire, you tried to teach me the twirl, but the sticks you gave and signed for me kept slipping through my fingers. You made it look so simple. I'll never forget you, mate. Thanks for everything. It's so sad and it hurts so much.

I'll never forget that evening you went to the toilet in The White Horse with Elliott to practise the vocal harmonies to The Sixteens. During the rehearsel a man suddenly opened the door from the cubicles and commented with words to the effect of "The best visit to the toilet I have ever had!"

My heart goes out to Mick's daughter and Jan in particular who has had some incredibly hard and emotionally draining days.

A big thank you to Elliott for doing all the driving for Jan to and from hospital night and day. It's not easy for you either.

Mick, we will miss you, but you will live on in spirit and in our memories. You will never die. Keep rocking.

A Bitter-Sweet Epitaph
A very gifted friend of mine wrote this in a few moments of reflection this afternoon. I found it quite beautiful, I hope you do too. A touching piece of work Paula. Thank you so much!!!

Goodnight, Mick,
Put your soul to sleep.
Your music plays on
While the World will weep;
And as it plays
A mournful beat
We remember a life
Too short, but sweet.

Marc.

Re: Mick Tucker - Sad News.
I've just had very bad day.. My wife has been taken into hospital because of severe stomach cramps, my 7 year old son Joseph came home from school early today because he has the current flu bug that's been going around, and then when I turn on my computer this evening I received an e-mail from The Sweet.com website that informs me that one of my greatest idols had passed away this morning.
I had the great pleasure of meeting Mick, Brian and Steve Priest actually, all on separate occasions sadly, and they were all gentlemen, and most definitely in a league of their own.., the pleasure was all mine!, great memories...,

Mick Tucker, Brian Connolly, Steve Priest and Andy Scott were 'the' reason why I got into music, and now as I approach my 40th year, my dreams of stardom are well and truly over, but for me, and for millions like me,
.. The Sweet will live on forever....,

God Bless you Mick, and Thank you for your spirit,
... now let it fly!

God Bless you to Brian... RIP.., and no matter what the song said, you were never bound to fade away!

(and yes it is true, big boys do cry...).,
.. sad day..,
Adey.

Mick Tucker - Sad News
It has been a horrible time. I've been crying on and off all day. This time two weeks ago I was with Sixteen chatting to Mick and Elliott in their local pub discussing how he wrote Lost Angels. I never actually knew but he told me that it was all about the lost kids of Los Angeles and how when the band visited LA, this image of all the street kids there, out of their heads, hit them.

I will never forget the first time Elliott introduced me to Mick about a year ago. I was SO nervous but Elliott assured me it would ok and sure enough it was. I spent the entire evening chatting and asking numerous questions to which he seemed only too happy to reply.

Elliott has been a true friend to Mick and Jan in recent months and I know had a major impact on keeping Mick's spirits up. I just want to say thanks to Elliott and to Mick for making a dream possible and for making me feel welcome. It will never be the same. Gonna miss you Mick!

Re: Mick Tucker - Sad News
No words exist to convey the heaviness in my heart today except these: this morning, the world lost an incredible talent and, from what I understand, an even more amazing human being. Fair winds at your back, Mick, and inexpressible thanks for all that you gave to each of us who consider The Sweet's music the soundtrack to our lives. You will be missed more than you can know.

Re: Mick Tucker - Sad News.
All I can say is Wow! this is really sad news. I just got home from work was in a real mood to listen to the Live at the Marquee disc to relive the time I met them on the last night of their 1990 tour. I get on the net, come here first and see the news.

Mick was wonderfull man. The time i got to meet him he was cheerfull and pleasant and gracious to me and my girlfriend. My heart goes out to his family: And of course Steve and Andy for the loss of a fellow bandmate and friend.:(

Re: Mick Tucker - Sad News.
I only posted here a couple of times, but at times like this everyone needs to share their grief and I do share in this sad day with all of you.
I only a couple years ago really got into Sweet and now think back that I missed so much. Especially now losing Mick.
Sounds like many here knew him personally and that he was the best friend to everyone he touched. You are all lucky people to have known him. Treasure your memories always and believe he is well now.
A lifetime of talent has not been lost nor will ever be forgotten.

Thank you,
Zel

Re: Mick Tucker - Sad News.
From Dan Chisholm - DJ on BBC Wiltshire Sound Radio:

"Stewart - Thanks for the sad message ... Andy rang me this afternoon to tell me. I'll do a small tribute in my prog this Sat between 12 and 1 with Andy.

A helluva fine drummer.

Dan Chisholm"
