Absolutely shattered, that's how I feel. My deepest sympathy go
to his family. Mick was a rare talent. To be a drummer behind all
the glamour and glitter, and just do your job is one thing. What
always struck me about Mick was how he was able to project himself,
through his playing and stage presence. Mick shined so brightly,
in terms of his talent and persona. I almost got to meet him in "85,
but being shy didn't pluck up the courage, when the opportunity
presented itself. I wish I had. Still I'll always remember the
experience of seeing him live. May he rest in peace.

Re: Mick Tucker - Sad News.
Oh no, when I saw the pics above I thought I hope this is not true.
But yes after reading all this I have to believe it is
true.
My deppest condolences to Jan and Ayston because they
lost a very good husband and father. I hope for them all these
messages wil give them a little support in those days.
Also a
compliment to Elliot who I have met in August last year, together
with Jan and Mick in there pub. He did so much for
Mick.
At this moment I can't say anything more.

I spoke to Ronald and Carla Klarenbeek from BCS and Ronald asked me
to give their condolences also. He was very shocked to here it. Last
time he met Mick it was in August, in his local pub, that's were he
met Elliot to and to Elliot he wants so say, you did a wonderful job
with Mick trying to get him back on stage.

Re: Mick Tucker
- Sad News.
Heartbreak Today...
Mick,
You seemed such a great,
fun-loving bloke. I never met you. I never had the opportunity
to, but you helped to shape my life. I live in Australia, and so
I read about all the things I couldn't see, and felt envious of the
Brits and Yanks who were lucky enough to be able to personally
experience the best hard rock band in the world. Every single day I
listened to your records and fed off the energy that coursed through
my body, directly from the efforts of you and the boys. I wonder if
you realised the effect you were having on ordinary people over the
other side of the world?
I met Brian once, and it was
probably one of the saddest moments in my life. He so wanted to
entertain people, yet his body was trying so hard to stop
him.
Andy seems to be driven by allowing his music to move
others. There is no one that sounds or plays like him - he was made
for The Sweet.
Steve is so proud of what he achieved with you
guys. And so he should be. Like the rest of you, his unique style
helped to create a unique band.
Mick, you seemed to be
incredibly full of fun, yet one of the most original and
accomplished drummers going around. Andy said it himself - you were
the best drummer in the seventies. Me and my mates used to say you
were the greatest drummer in the world, and would fight to defend
your honour, even though the only drummers we knew were you and
Roger Taylor. But in hindsight - we were right.
You know what
is so horrible about getting old, Mick? All the incredible people -
legends - who have shaped your life whilst you were growing up are
moving on to another place. Mick, I am only a fan. Your family
deserves all the support and sympathy they can get - not me and
those like me. However, I will miss you and Brian immensely, and
hope that both of you are now in a much better place. Rock on,
Mick!
* PS - Steve and Andy - don't ever forget how
important you are to us - the fans. With Brian and Mick, you created
a phenomenon, and most of us will never get the chance to tell you
personally what you have done for us in our lives. It's a shame that
these sad moments are often the only times we tell you
that.

Tucker
I am unable to find words that can express my sadness and shock
over the loss of one of the people who have inspired me most in
my life. Mick Tucker was with me since 1974 and I spend a good
deal of my time since to study and enjoy his extraodinary talent as
a drummer. Even today Mick stands out as a remarkable musician, who
became an inspiration for 100s of drummers around the globe. Most
of all Mick was a nice person, and that I how I shall remember him.
Thanks for everything, Mick. Rest in Piece. Jan Achmann

What more can one say. Only found out this morning. I only got
to see Mick once, 1981 in Nottingham. He was one of four in a band
that became part of my life. R.I.P. Mick Tucker. Neil.

Re: Mick Tucker - Sad News.
I happened to be the first to post here and at the time didn't
know what to say. It was no coincidence I was here - I had heard the
terrible news and was desperately scanning the board in denial,
praying it was untrue. And then it was. After everyones tributes and
outpourings I now feel I have even less to say, but forgive me for
trying....
The Sweet wrote the soundtrack of my teens and my
absolute hero in the band was the Mighty Man At The Back. Emulating
him on "air drums" in my back bedroom, marvelling at the stick twirl
on TOTP, then worshipping at Hammersmith and finally, listening to
his Sweet stories in a pub with Elliott, Ted and Henrik.
I am
thankful for the honour of meeting him at all, thanks to the
kindness and generosity of Elliott. It was a thrill to see Mick
climb onto little stage at The Anglers and watching the music coarse
through him. He loved it....and we loved him loving it.
For
my private tribute yesterday, I downed a shotglass of Jack Daniells,
played a live Golden Arm REAL loud listening to him thrash hell out
of his drumkit. I then reread a piece I wrote about the thrill of
meeting Mick that was published in a few fanzines. Tears flowed as
painfully and spasmodically as writing this now does....
The
music world mourns the loss of it's greatest drummer ever. But my
heart goes out his family and friends who have lost so much more. I
cannot claim Mick as a friend but saw enough in the people around
him to know who much he will be missed by those who knew him
well.
Sorry this is rambling but ...."you know it ain't
easy".
God Bless You Mick

So sad to hear the news, to me he was up there with the drumming
greats!! (but all you guys know that anyway) The main thing is
that his family know all our thoughts and prayers are with
them.

K.O.
AFTER GETTING THE BAD NEWS YESTERDAY, I WASN'T ABLE TO DO ANYTHING.
CERTAINLY NOT TO POST A MESSAGE ON THE MB. I'M STILL TOTALLY
INCONSOLABLE. I GUESS THE NAME I'M USING OVER HERE ON THE MB ALWAYS
SAID ENOUGH. MICK WAS MY REASON TO START PLAYING THE DRUMS. I'VE
BEEN ALL OVER EUROPE AS A PROFESSIONAL DRUMMER, ALL THANKS TO MICK.
WITHOUT HIM,I DON'T THINK I WOULD EVER HAVE SEEN A DRUM KIT CLOSE AT
HAND. WHILE FELLOW DRUMMERS ALWAYS WERE (OR ARE) DROPPING NAMES SUCH
AS WECKL, CHAMBERS, PORCARO, PAICE,etc, I WAS ALWAYS MENTIONING
"MIGHTY MICK". IT DROVE ME NUTZ THAT MOST OF THE TIME THEY DIDN'T
EVEN KNOW WHO I WAS TALKING 'BOUT AND WEREN'T IMPRESSED. 'TILL THEY
HEARD THE GIVE US A WINK ALBUM WITH "COCKROACH", "KEEP IT IN", STUFF
LIKE THAT. HE's THE MOST UNDERRATED ROCKDRUMMER EVER. HIS DRUM STYLE
WAS UNIQUE, VERY POWERFUL AND HE HAD THIS INCREDIBLE CHARISMA ON
STAGE. I REMEMBER WHEN SWEET APPEARED A LOT ON TELEVISION WAY
BACK IN THE EARLY SEVENTIES AND EVERY KID IN SCHOOL WAS TALKING
'BOUT "THAT GREAT DRUMMER WITH HIS TWIRLING STICKS". I THINK
TOMMY LEE OF MOTLEY CRUE WAS ONE OF THOSE KIDS TOO, HE'S ONE OF THE
DRUMMERS THAT ADMIRED AND COPIED MICK A LOT. I ONLY WISHED I
COULD HAVE TOLD HIM HOW GRATEFUL I AM, FOR PUTTING ME BEHIND THESE
DRUMS, IN HIS LIVING YEARS. I'M GLAD I SAW HIM PLAY LIVE, VERY SAD I
NEVER MET HIM PERSONALLY...
SO MICK, THANKS FOR EVERYTHING .
YOU ALWAYS KNOCKED ME OUT, LIKE NO ONE OR NOTHING EVER COULD...
ACCEPT FOR THE DREADFUL NEWS OF YESTERDAY... I WON'T FORGET YOU.
NEVER EVER.
MY THOUGHTS ARE WITH YOUR FAMILY.
YOUR
BIGGEST FAN

Mick Tucker
I chose my handle for the message board many months ago as it
reflected my admiration for Mick's inventive and imaginitive
drumming.
It formed a part of the music I grew up with and
this is another sad loss for all fans of the greatest rock group
never to receive proper acclaim.
My thoughts are with Mick's
family and friends.

Re: Mick Tucker
Frank Torpy asked me to place this message on here:
"I had
known the bad news was coming, but you hope and you pray. I would
like to send my deepest condolences to Jan and Ayston, who have been
so brave, also to Elliot, he showed himself to be a true friend. I
didn't have the courage to visit Mick in hospital, so I will
remember him as a fourteen year old boy laughing and joking playing
drums with me on guitar. I will also remember him at Jan's party,
what a great night! at the Indian restaurant where he looked so well
just a few weeks back. But most of all the White house which will
never be the same. we are going to miss you mate
Frank"

Re: Mick Tucker
What a great message from Frank. I have never met Frank but I am
filled with admiration at his admission that he did not have the
courage to visit Mick in hospital. It demonstrates a great deal of
courage to admit a thing like that but also illustrates well how
some of us prefer to hold on to our own "Special" memories of an
individual rather than have our heads filled with memories of seeing
someone we love in decline health wise.
I had several
opportunities to meet Mick again in the past year but decided that I
would rather hold on to my memories of Mick in the 80's. It was a
conscious decision that I made but a tough one. I liked him a lot
and the temptation to renew that acquaintance was huge at times.
Having known Mick was a very special thing in my life and now
NOTHING can sully those memories for me.
I think I'm glad I
made the choice I did...............I THINK :-(

What terrible news, my sympathy to his wife and daughter, an
immense musician whom never was given the recognition he deserved
the golden arm showed he was a real talent behind the kit and from
observing this MB it seems he was a real telent as a man.
As
with all the members of Sweet he helped shape my life!
Sleep
well Mick. R.I.P.
