Me and my wife went to visit this oldie-festival. Along with AS Sweet other groups such as The Equals, The Flowerpot Men, Middle of the Road, Mud, The Searchers, ...were on the playlist for live performance.

I estimate about 10.000 visitors that night were at the festival.

The Equals opened the festival and they did a nice job with a set of about four songs including 'Baby come back'. The audience gave polite applause. Second on the playlist were 'Flowerpot Men'. Forget about them. The Searchers did a better job, but enthousiasm amongst the public came with Dozy,Beaky,Mick and Tich. Nice performance (Xanadu, Bend it,...). Brotherhood of man came next with a poor set and a poor response. After this, about 22.30 CET, AS Sweet came on stage. Everybody stood up, a lot of people tried to reach the stage and it looked as hell had come down. I've been to gigs before, but never I experienced the same enthousiasm from a public this big. Everybody was singing and dancing along, from teenagers to older people. The sound was very good, solid and the atmosphere was unbelievable. 10,000 people singing along. Andy and the others did really enjoy the gig. The set AS Sweet played was a good choice for this kind of festival:

Even the bubblegum songs sounded very solid and hard.
It was too soon over, and the 'we want more' didn't help because of the strictly calendar of the festival. Even though my wife isn't too big a fan of Sweet, she admitted that they were the best and she also had enjoyed the gig and sang along. After AS Sweet came Middle of the Road and enthousiasm calmed down so far, that we decided to leave. I think it was impossible for the other groups to come (Mud - The Tremeloes) to create the same atmosphere. This was definitly an evening with Sweet being the stars adored and loved by 10.000 people. Sweet stays still big in Belgium.

Greetings to you Stewart and if you see some of the lads of AS Sweet - please give them my compliments. AS Sweet will be playing in Belgium again in May - I'll be there - please tell Andy Scott I'll buy him some beers then !

PS : Good choice for Jeff Brown being leadsinger - excellent voice.
