SWEET Oz Tour 2004....

Report of A S SWEET at The Hotel Shoppington, on September 17th 2004.
My thanks to Simon for his report.

I first saw SWEET at the Central Club in Richmond, Melbourne, many years ago, 1985 to be exact. It was a brilliant gig with both Andy Scott and the classic drumming of Mick Tucker (RIP). The new lead vocalist then 'Paul Mario Day I believe was great. They played a set full of the classic heavier Sweet stuff! Fast forward to 1995 I caught three gigs (it was just Andy from the original line up at this stage). The vocalist then was average to be honest. The set list was average also.

Now another 9 years later my finace & I attend the Friday night gig in suburban Doncaster. The venue was a bit naff, seating. Rock Caberet Andy Scott comments!

The band however rocked, new vocalist Tony O'Hara can sing! Andy's guitar was loud and searing! The band have a sense of humour, they know how Spinal Tapish playing stuff like Co Co is. They openly admitted they prefer the heavier stuff.

I just wish they played more of the heavier SWEET stuff like 'Set Me Free' (my fave SWEET track). I did hear they played this song the following night! Pity I missed that! But all in all a good night!

SET LIST was something like...

1. Hellraiser
2. Burn On The Flame (Best song of the night!)
3. The Sixteens
4. ??? (the heaviest Sweet song I've heard! Can't recall the title!)
5. Everything
6. Co Co - Funny Funny - Poppa Joe Medley (we could have done without this)
7. Wig Wam Bam - Little Willy Medley
8. Teenage Rampage
9. Peppermint Twist (Oz legend Wilbur Wilde on Sax)
10. Love Is Like Oxygen incl. Waltzing Matilda & Fanfare for the Common Man
11. Action
12. Blockbuster
13. Fox On The Run
14. Ballroom Blitz ( Encore )

Cheers,

Simon
