MESSAGE FROM MARK WHEATLEY & IAN MOORE ORGANISERS OF THE BRIAN CONNOLLY MEMORIAL SHOW. Due to several messages which have appeared on the Internet we feel the need to clarify a few points. Although the show was originally suggested by Nicola Connolly and has the full support of the Connolly family, it has now very much become a fan driven thing, put on by fans for fellow fans. The show at the Camden Palace has been costed to accomodate five hundred fans (roughly the number who have expressed an interest in attending). Admission has been set at £17, which will generate £8,500. The money will be used to pay for the purchase and up-keep of a plaque for Brian, the booking of the venue, hire of P.A. and backline, video crew, lights, printing and advertising, phone bills, postage and guest artist's expenses. Any surplus will be put into a fund for the annual up-keep of Brian's plaque. This is by no means a money making scam, at best the organisers are looking at breaking even. We were saddened to hear of the loss of Steve's guitars but can assure him that neither of us has had any involvement with this incident. To clarify any confusion surrounding the event, we would like to make it clear to anyone planning to attend that the intention is to have a memorial show for Brian and although there will be a small number of stalls on the day the event is not intended as a convention. We are disappointed that due to reasons beyond our control it is looking unlikely that Steve and Mick will be able to attend as advertised. However due to the overwhelming messages of support from fellow Sweet fans from around the world, we have decided to go ahead with the show as planned. We have not given up hope that Steve and Mick may still be persuaded to reconsider. We feel that the original intention which was to raise money to purchase a plaque to honour the memory of a man who has given so many so much enjoyment is still the most important reason that the show should take place, anything else is secondary. It also gives all of us a chance to gather together and pay our respects whilst at the same time celebrating the life of a man who has touched us all in some way and allowing us to provide a permenant monument for others who may wish to pay their respects in the future. Unfortunately Steve and Mick's cancellation doesn't reduce the cost of the event by much as they were kind enough to offer their services for basic expenses (as indeed are all the artists appearing) so we are unable to offer a reduction on the ticket prices. Thanks for your continued support. Hoping to see everyone on the 11th October. Mark & Ian P.S. If anyone has any queries please feel free to phone either of us on 0585 595687 or 0981 912482 |
