Hi Stewart, as usual the HSH message board is full of speculation so Tony M amd I have decided to make a brief announcement. It is with a certain degree of sadness that I can confirm that Sweet are still looking for a singer/bassist. We have just completed a tour of Denmark and it was a mutual decision by all concerned and we stress that this is not personal in any way. Firstly - Tony Mills has a great voice. All of us agree on this. The song "Everything" could have been written for him. However Sweet's music is a bit like Spinal Tap, it crosses into many areas. A journalist once called the band - bubblegum/pop/rock/metal/progressive - I'm still wondering if he got it right. Tony Ohora has commented that the job with Sweet has tested him more than any other so this should give everyone some kind of perspective. We wish Tony Mills our sincerest best wishes for the future with his band and solo projects. We will continue in our efforts to find a replacement (remaining as a four-piece is paramount) and in our endeavour to keep standards high. My thanks to the fans on HSH and everywhere else for their understanding and support. Assuring you of my best intentions always, Andy Scott
"Well, what can I say ?!!! As a fan of The Sweet from my first interest in music in the early 70's, The Sweet, David Bowie and Mott The Hoople dominated my life for many years. Vowing to one day be signed to the same record labels as a kid, I eventually achieved this in the mid '80's with a band called SHY. After years of touring with SHY and SIAM and working as a solo artist and session musician, the opportunity of working with a hero becomes no less daunting, yet so exciting. After recording a couple of tracks for Andy Scott, to be asked to join the band was a great surprise and a great honour. I am very excited to be working with Andy, Steve and Bruce and I'm full of apprehension for the coming weeks. From a fan to a member in 30 years is a strange journey and yet I feel a great sense of achievement, albeit such a long time. In dedication to Brian Connolly, whom I admired greatly, I only hope I can be such a Hellraiser. Tony Mills"
And from Andy:
"Tony O'Hora recommended Tony Mills after seeing him perform last year. They knew each other anyway and Tony O admitted to being a bit of a fan of Tony M. Small world. Their voices are not dissimilar and as a band we are looking forward to the future. His first dates are in Europe (Denmark) at the end of Jan - straight in at the deep end just the same as everyone else! OK - Andy"
Tony already has his own website up and running you you can get the lowdown on him here: http://www.tonymills.net

...
Hi Stewart, I feel that I have to comment on the recent speculation surrounding Tony's future with the band. The truth is that he does not want to leave and we certainly do not want him to go but unavoidable circumstances have brought us to a crossroads which has to be resolved for all our sakes. Everyone is aware that this is the best line-up we have had but unless some miracle happens it cannot continue. Tony has issues to deal with, both personal (which will remain so but if he needs us we are there for him) and professional. Many people know that he has two careers, the band and his work at a Music College in Birmingham. He excels at both as you would expect. I believe he has a future with the band and beyond, he also loves the challenge of teaching young musicians, engineers and kids who just want to be involved with entertainment and they love and respect him. The epicentre of all of this is that next year he will leave Sweet. There is no animosity and if he needs a sabatical to think things through, away from all pressure, then we will give it to him. To find a replacement who can fit in as perfectly as Tony will be difficult, Fantastic singer, good bassist and all round brilliant bloke. The upshot is that this task has to be tackled with our intention to keep the standards as high as they have been so with that in mind we need a new singer/bass player. The king is dead, long live the king - Sweet will still be trying to be the best on the "live" circuit, come what may. If there is a singer who thinks he has the stamina, vocal range and ability to step into position then he should contact Stewart at the Sweet website, soonest. Russia. We have just returned from a very successful tour with a pretty radical change in the line-up. Steve moved to Vocals/Bass and Phil Lanzon (Uriah Heep) took over Keys. The pedigree speaks for itself. As musicians we knew we could play our way out of any situation and we were proved right. Vocally it was strong, far better than our expectations and the audience reaction was tremendous. Steve does not want to be the singer but I would like to thank him for stepping up and giving his all, thanks to Bruce who's voice gets stronger with every show and to Phil for returning to Russia for the umpteenth time and keeping our spirits up! Vodka and Champagne mainly. This line-up will be seen on a couple of shows in Germany while we make the necessary changes. I am sorry to be the bearer of such news but the sooner we sort this the better. Assuring you of my best intentions at all times, onwards and upwards! Best regards, Andy Scott
This also from Tony:
Tony also has this message to you: After nearly 3 years with The Sweet I am very sorry to have to make the decision to leave the band. I have had some of the best times of my life and have travelled half way round the world with my best friends; I will miss the camaraderie the most. For the last year I have been working full time at a music college as well as travelling every weekend. Working seven days a week I knew at some point that something would have to give. Although I love performing more than anything else in the world I cannot let this new career chance pass me by. It offers me the long term security that I really need in my life. I've met some wonderful people throughout my travels with the band and I really hope that you will understand that although this has been the hardest decision to make only I can choose. Keep on rockin' Tony O'Hora

A message from Andy Scott on this situation.
There appears to be some confusion over who is playing at the Dunmow Festival on July 19th. Due to Showaddywaddy also playing, there has been an assumption that it's Sweet with Andy Scott because of the recent Glitz Blitz tour. But just to clarify, it isn't. Andy will be in Germany at a different festival.

From Steve Priest:
"I am afraid to have to inform everyone that Mick Tucker passed away about around midday today. It was from complications
brought on by the leukemia he survived five years ago. Please respect his wife and family. We are all really devastated at
his passing and will miss him dreadfully."

From Andy Scott:
"Mick Tucker was the best drummer around in the 70's. I played in the same band as him and was proud to do so. I feel extreme
sadness therefore that he has now left us and my heart goes out to Janet and Ayston with their sad loss.
Miss you Mick - and then there were two".

Elliott has asked me to say that Mick was the nicest guy he'd ever met and his thoughts are naturally with his wife Jan and Mick's family at this time.
...more news on this very sad day as I get it.

Dates for the event being organised by Kevin Smith (and currently being called a 'Fan Event') are looking to be either November 9th or 10th and will be held in either Devizes or Chippenham. The event will include at least 1 track from the new album being played (there are about 9 tracks written so far), new video material being shown and (interestingly) a NO HOLDS BARRED Question and Answer session! For more info, contact Kevin Smith on:krs@thesweet.u-net.com.
"Andy is playing two nights at the Salisbury Arts Centre on September 14th
and 15th. This will be an 'unplugged', solo performance accompanied only by a
keyboard player. He will be playing songs from both The Sweet and his solo
repertoire. The will also be a question and answer session.
Both nights are
to be recorded for a live album. Tickets will be available soon for £10 each
night. If anybody wishes to attend both they can obtain tickets from me only, at
£18 for the two. There will only be 300 each night so it will be first come
first served."
Tickets are available from Kris Gray at mailto:kris.gray@btinternet.com?subject=Tickets. I don't think these two nights are necessarily to do with the forthcoming album, I think this is different, but will probably replace the event previously outlined by Kevin Smith. I'll be posting more from Kevin or Kris soon...
Andy will do two very small acoustic gigs in the UK during late September early October. This will be the first time ever that he has done this kind of show. These shows are for the launch of the new A.S Sweet cd which will be released around this time.
Andy will be there for the whole evening and will play for appx 30- 40 mins mainly older Sweet songs like 'Hold Me', 'Dream On' and maybe even do a questions and answers session and also there will be a chance to listen to the new tracks from the album. There will be a free gift for everyone who attends that will comprise of a cassette of alternate mixes of a few of the tracks from the CD there will also be a chance to buy the first edition copies of the Sweet Diary's that Kevin Smith has been putting together. Andy is also hoping to put together a special fan club edition of the CD.
The Date is yet to be confirmed but if you are interested in attending please
e-mail Kevin Smith at krs@thesweet.u-net.com or send a
stamped address enevolpe to Kevin at the following address:

The sessions will be limited to 50 people per night over two nights but there will be no chance to get in on the door because of fire regulations. Ticket prices will be approx. £10.00.

Messages from Steve Priest and Mick Tucker -
12.6.98
This post is from Steve Priest regarding the upcoming
supposed Brian Tribute Show.
******************* To All Sweet Fans This post is in regards to the Brian Tribute Show . After the recent treatment I have had from one of the Organizers by the illegal selling of 2 of my favorite guitars, and also hearing the Tribute for Brian is turning into a convention. I have decided not to attend this event being held in England in October. After talking with Mick, he has come to the same conclusion. I have not yet been able to reach Andy. In my mind the Tribute for Brian should be nothing more than a show of affection in honor of our lost bandmate. Charging this extremely large amount for what started out being a fundraiser for a memorial plaque seems nothing less than extortion. This will probably come as a great disapointment to alot of you out there, but I'm afraid I can not in all good conscience support what looks like in my view is becoming a money making scam. I would prefer to have Brian remembered in a dignified manor and I'm sure you all feel the same. Best Wishes To All Steve Priest...Mick Tucker has also passed on a message to Home SWEET Home basically saying that he too feels uncomfortable with the situation and has also decided not to attend the tribute.
...more details over the next few days...
