February 8th 2006 - No, still looking for that new Singer Bass/Player for AS Sweet.

Unfortunately, after several recent gigs in Denmark, the band and Tony Mills have decided to go their seperate ways.
This message from Andy Scott:

Hi Stewart, as usual the HSH message board is full of speculation so
Tony M amd I have decided to make a brief announcement.

It is with a certain degree of sadness that I can confirm that Sweet are
still looking for a singer/bassist. We have just completed a tour of Denmark
and it was a mutual decision by all concerned and we stress that this is not
personal in any way.
Firstly - Tony Mills has a great voice. All of us agree on this. The song
"Everything" could have been written for him. However Sweet's music is a bit
like Spinal Tap, it crosses into many areas. A journalist once called the
band - bubblegum/pop/rock/metal/progressive - I'm still wondering if he got
it right. Tony Ohora has commented that the job with Sweet has tested him
more than any other so this should give everyone some kind of perspective.
We wish Tony Mills our sincerest best wishes for the future with his band
and solo projects. We will continue in our efforts to find a replacement
(remaining as a four-piece is paramount) and in our endeavour to keep
standards high. My thanks to the fans on HSH and everywhere else for their
understanding and support.

Assuring you of my best intentions always,

Andy Scott

January 13th 2006 - New Singer Bass/Player for AS Sweet!

It's finally been announced that the new singer/bass player to join A S Sweet and replace Tony O'Hora will be Tony Mills, ex of the band SHY. He should be joining the band in time for the two Denmark gigs late in January. Tony's comments to HSH today were:
"Well, what can I say ?!!!

As a fan of The Sweet from my first interest in music in the early 70's,
The Sweet, David Bowie and Mott The Hoople dominated my life for many
years. Vowing to one day be signed to the same record labels as a kid,
I eventually achieved this in the mid '80's with a band called SHY.
After years of touring with SHY and SIAM and working as a solo artist
and session musician, the opportunity of working with a hero becomes
no less daunting, yet so exciting.

After recording a couple of tracks for Andy Scott, to be asked to join
the band was a great surprise and a great honour.

I am very excited to be working with Andy, Steve and Bruce and I'm
full of apprehension for the coming weeks.

From a fan to a member in 30 years is a strange journey and yet I
feel a great sense of achievement, albeit such a long time.

In dedication to Brian Connolly, whom I admired greatly, I only
hope I can be such a Hellraiser.

Tony Mills"

And from Andy:

"Tony O'Hora recommended Tony Mills after seeing him perform last year. They knew
each other anyway and Tony O admitted to being a bit of a fan of Tony M.
Small world. Their voices are not dissimilar and as a band we are looking
forward to the future. His first dates are in Europe (Denmark) at the end of
Jan - straight in at the deep end just the same as everyone else!
OK - Andy"

Tony already has his own website up and running you you can get the lowdown on him here: http://www.tonymills.net

Welcome Tony!

October 29th 2005 - Tony O'Hora releasing new CD

Hot on the news that Tony is to leave ASS, it appears he is to release a new album on the Frontiers Records label entitled "Escape Into The Sun" on January 27, 2006. Although a solo album, some tracks were written by Swedish guitarist/producer Magnus Karlsson. Tracks knows of so far include:
Broken Soul - (mp3 sample); Escape Into The Sun - (mp3 sample); No More Innocence; High Enough - (mp3 sample); My Final Prayer; Dreamless Nights; More Than We Know; Close To Me; Evil Love; Black Wings; Start All Over; Never Alone.
...

October 17th 2005 - Tony O'Hora to leave AS SWEET?

Following speculation since his non-appearance on the Russian Tour, Andy has sent these words regarding the future for frontman Tony O'Hora in A S SWEET:

Hi Stewart,

I feel that I have to comment on the recent speculation surrounding Tony's
future with the band. The truth is that he does not want to leave and we
certainly do not want him to go but unavoidable circumstances have brought
us to a crossroads which has to be resolved for all our sakes. Everyone is
aware that this is the best line-up we have had but unless some miracle
happens it cannot continue. Tony has issues to deal with, both personal
(which will remain so but if he needs us we are there for him) and
professional. Many people know that he has two careers, the band and his
work at a Music College in Birmingham. He excels at both as you would
expect. I believe he has a future with the band and beyond, he also loves
the challenge of teaching young musicians, engineers and kids who just want
to be involved with entertainment and they love and respect him. The
epicentre of all of this is that next year he will leave Sweet. There is no
animosity and if he needs a sabatical to think things through, away from all
pressure, then we will give it to him. To find a replacement who can fit in
as perfectly as Tony will be difficult, Fantastic singer, good bassist and
all round brilliant bloke. The upshot is that this task has to be tackled
with our intention to keep the standards as high as they have been so with
that in mind we need a new singer/bass player. The king is dead, long live
the king - Sweet will still be trying to be the best on the "live" circuit,
come what may. If there is a singer who thinks he has the stamina, vocal
range and ability to step into position then he should contact Stewart at
the Sweet website, soonest.

Russia. We have just returned from a very successful tour with a pretty
radical change in the line-up. Steve moved to Vocals/Bass and Phil Lanzon
(Uriah Heep) took over Keys. The pedigree speaks for itself. As musicians we
knew we could play our way out of any situation and we were proved right.
Vocally it was strong, far better than our expectations and the audience
reaction was tremendous. Steve does not want to be the singer but I would
like to thank him for stepping up and giving his all, thanks to Bruce who's
voice gets stronger with every show and to Phil for returning to Russia for
the umpteenth time and keeping our spirits up! Vodka and Champagne mainly.
This line-up will be seen on a couple of shows in Germany while we make the
necessary changes.

I am sorry to be the bearer of such news but the sooner we sort this the
better. Assuring you of my best intentions at all times, onwards and
upwards!

Best regards,

Andy Scott

This also from Tony:

Tony also has this message to you:

After nearly 3 years with The Sweet I am very sorry to have to make the
decision to leave the band. I have had some of the best times of my life
and have travelled half way round the world with my best friends; I will
miss the camaraderie the most. For the last year I have been working full
time at a music college as well as travelling every weekend. Working seven
days a week I knew at some point that something would have to give.
Although I love performing more than anything else in the world I cannot
let this new career chance pass me by. It offers me the long term security
that I really need in my life. I've met some wonderful people throughout my
travels with the band and I really hope that you will understand that
although this has been the hardest decision to make only I can choose.

Keep on rockin'
Tony O'Hora

Andy NOT at Dunmow Festival on July 19th

A message from Andy Scott on this situation.

There appears to be some confusion over who is playing at the Dunmow Festival on July 19th. Due to Showaddywaddy also playing, there has been an assumption that it's Sweet with Andy Scott because of the recent Glitz Blitz tour. But just to clarify, it isn't. Andy will be in Germany at a different festival.

Here's the flyer advertising BCS

and here's their website logo

... so now you can see how some might get confused. No mention of them being a tribute band - what happened to the size of the 'BC' and as for 'Top 70's Glam Rock Hit Band'...come one, when did BCS ever have any hits in the 70's! This is a blatant attempt at a ripe off, and don't blame the promoter - someone provided those graphics - Trades Description Act?

    Tony O'Hora in rehersals - 21.03.03
I was very fortunate to be invited to Andy's place yesterday to watch Tony rehearsing with the rest of the band. Also managed to get some nice photo's which are in the Gallery section. Tony sounded very good, especially when I was informed that this was only the fourth time he'd managed to rehearse with the rest of the boys. I was suprised how well he'd learned the songs and were rehearsing all the usual and even Turn It Down, Sweet FA etc. Look out for him this weekend and please send me any photo's from the gigs!

Jeff Brown replaced as A S Sweet lead singer - 16.03.03
Tony O'Hora has now been confirmed as the new lead singer and bass player with A S Sweet. It seems that Jeff was replaced recently and the band managed to get a couple of weeks where they were able to rehearse with Tony. Previously, Tony has sung with Praying Mantis, so is already well known to Bruce Bisland in ASS. At this stage we don't know what Jeff will be doing, but hope that he will contact this website to let us know. Clearly we all wish Jeff the best for the future.

Mick Tucker dies in hospital - 14.02.02
Today, Mick died in hospital at 11.35am. He had become unwell last Friday and had informed friends he was going to see the doctor, but was then admitted to hospital on Saturday February 9th - a day we all remember, it being the anniversary of Brian's death. Unfortunately Mick's health went downhill and he finally passed away earlier today. With him were his family including his wife Janet, his daughter Ayston, niece Angela with her husband Martin, and his close friend Elliott Tuffin.

    *****************
    From Steve Priest:
"I am afraid to have to inform everyone that Mick Tucker passed away about around midday today. It was from complications brought on by the leukemia he survived five years ago. Please respect his wife and family. We are all really devastated at his passing and will miss him dreadfully."

    Steve Priest

    *****************
    From Andy Scott:
"Mick Tucker was the best drummer around in the 70's. I played in the same band as him and was proud to do so. I feel extreme sadness therefore that he has now left us and my heart goes out to Janet and Ayston with their sad loss.

Miss you Mick - and then there were two".

    *****************
Elliott has asked me to say that Mick was the nicest guy he'd ever met and his thoughts are naturally with his wife Jan and Mick's family at this time.

...more news on this very sad day as I get it.

    TASTER OF ANDY'S NEW CD!! - 25.7.00
I've been supplied with a very short 'snippet' of one of the tracks from the forthcoming new CD by A S Sweet. The track is called SWEETLIFE and it's here in mp3 format. It's only about 800k big, so you can click here to download it.

Dates for the event being organised by Kevin Smith (and currently being called a 'Fan Event') are looking to be either November 9th or 10th and will be held in either Devizes or Chippenham. The event will include at least 1 track from the new album being played (there are about 9 tracks written so far), new video material being shown and (interestingly) a NO HOLDS BARRED Question and Answer session! For more info, contact Kevin Smith on:krs@thesweet.u-net.com.

Dates for Andy Scott's acoustic set - 2.7.00
I've been asked by Kris Gray to put this announcement on the website...

"Andy is playing two nights at the Salisbury Arts Centre on September 14th and 15th. This will be an 'unplugged', solo performance accompanied only by a keyboard player. He will be playing songs from both The Sweet and his solo repertoire. The will also be a question and answer session.
Both nights are to be recorded for a live album. Tickets will be available soon for £10 each night. If anybody wishes to attend both they can obtain tickets from me only, at £18 for the two. There will only be 300 each night so it will be first come first served."

Tickets are available from Kris Gray at mailto:kris.gray@btinternet.com?subject=Tickets. I don't think these two nights are necessarily to do with the forthcoming album, I think this is different, but will probably replace the event previously outlined by Kevin Smith. I'll be posting more from Kevin or Kris soon...

MORE on Andy Scott's new CD - 15.4.00

New BMG UK release planned? - 7.12.99
A reliable source has let me know that BMG UK are planning a Sweet CD for next year. Details are sketchy at the moment but it could be released in the second quarter of the year. Track listings are not finalised but it would appear to be a mid-priced CD, probably between £8 - £10. More details will be posted when confirmed.

Mick Tucker in local PUB incident! - 24.5.99
Some news recently breaking from Kevin Smith on Mick Tucker:
Apparently Mick recently performed with a duo at his local pub. Mick was watching the act when he was asked to supply backing vocals on a couple of songs. He ended up on stage for over an hour and sang lead and back-up to various songs and also added some tambourine to a couple.

Mick really enjoyed the experience so lets hope it won't be long before he's back on stage behind the kit!

I also asked Mick if he was to join forces again with Andy and Steve who would be his ideal vocalist?
...without hesitation he said Roger Daltery - what a line up that would be!

Date set for 1999 SWEET UK CONVENTION! - 4.5.99

A while ago Andy did an Interview for the Guitar Techniques magazine which is due to be published next week. Thanks to Dave Glover for sending it to me, it's reproduced here for your perusal on HSH!

    A.S.Sweet cruise offer - 3.2.99
Andy Scott's Sweet are booked to play on the 'Cinderella' on April 20th 1999, sailing out of Helsinki. Pawl Courtney in the UK, is helping to organise a 'package' whereby you can fly to Helsinki, get aboard ship for a 20 hour cruise (with a cabin) and then fly back afterwards from Helsinki. The anticipated price is £160 with an option for a further hotel stay in Helsinki. At this stage arrangements are still being made but if ANYONE is interested and would like to receive a detailed brochure on this - please email me and let me know. I will need your name, email address, postal address and how many interested in going. I will then pass this info onto Pawl who will arrange to get a brochure sent to you. This offer is NOT restricted to UK residents, as arrangements (and presumably pricing differences) can be done from other (European?) departure points. NOTE: This offer is not being organised by A.S.Sweet and is not their responsibility, just by keen interested fans.

    BMG single withdrawn - 3.2.99
Unfortunately, despite several hundred CD's being distributed to many German Radio stations, it appears they have not taken it to their heart and played it much. This was apparently the guide for whether BMG released it officially. Consequently, BMG have decided to pull the single and not release it. Shame.

More on the BMG CD - 23.12.98
It has been rumoured that the new BMG CD is starting to trickle through to the UK as an Import - so you may want to try and get it in the UK now. More also on the new single release - well it actually has 4 tracks. They are:
    • 'Fox On The Run (98 Radio Mix)' - this apparently has some additional guitar by Andy not released on the original.
    • Sweet and Foxy 98 (Dance Mix) - which is a remix edit.
    • Blockbuster (no change)
    • Sweet and Foxy 98 (as on the BMG album)

A S Sweet not touring the UK so much? - 18.8.98
Some of you in the UK and Europe may have noticed that recently, Andy has been doing most of his gigs over in Europe and especially Germany. Have you wondered why?
Well, I happened to be given a glimpse of a letter recently, apparently coming from a member of a well known 'tribute band'. The letter had been sent to several booking agents in Europe that Andy normally deals with. The contents of the letter came as rather a surprise. Imagine this...a 'tribute band'...(who's sole existence is surely due to the main members of the band they are supposed to be a tribute too) touting for business, actually stating that they should be booked, rather than a band that includes an original member! Why?... because they can do it cheaper!!! Can you credit it! This is partly why it seems that A S Sweet hasn't done so much in the UK as (wait for it) the UK booking 'sharks' are actually swallowing this sad bait to try and increase their profits!
But now, it seems, this 'tribute band' is not happy with this situation, they are trying to now poach business from the european booking agents. Thankfully, they are not sharks like the UK ones, and are sensible enough to realise that a band with an original member is infinitely better that any tribute band.
So to those fans in the UK wondering why they aren't seeing A S Sweet so regularly now - perhaps an apology is owed by this 'tribute band' - maybe we'll get it at the BC Tribute...? I doubt it..! What do you think? How about some comment on the Message Board. (Okay - I've got my crash helmet on now, and I'm just waiting to be 'flamed' out of existence! - SR)

Andy Scott on UK TV? - 10.8.98
Just to update everyone on this - it seems that last week Andy Scott was in the TV studios and on the 'Guess the Rock Star' line-up on the UK TV show: 'Never Mind The Buzzcocks'. However, you won't see it yet as it was a Xmas Video special, not for TV release - so put it on your Xmas List from Santa! BUT - while there, he was invited to go on Noddy Holder's 'Electric Ladyland' Quiz being shown on the Satellite Channel 'Granada Men & Motors' sometime soon - more details at a later date.

Messages from Steve Priest and Mick Tucker - 12.6.98
This post is from Steve Priest regarding the upcoming supposed Brian Tribute Show.

    *******************
    To All Sweet Fans
This post is in regards to the Brian Tribute Show .
After the recent treatment I have had from one of the Organizers by the
illegal selling of 2 of my favorite guitars, and also hearing the Tribute for
Brian is turning into a convention. I have decided not to attend this event
being held in England in October. After talking with Mick, he has come to the
same conclusion. I have not yet been able to reach Andy. In my mind the
Tribute for Brian should be nothing more than a show of affection in honor of
our lost bandmate. Charging this extremely large amount for what started out
being a fundraiser for a memorial plaque seems nothing less than extortion.
This will probably come as a great disapointment to alot of you out there, but
I'm afraid I can not in all good conscience support what looks like in my view
is becoming a money making scam. I would prefer to have Brian remembered in a
dignified manor and I'm sure you all feel the same.

    Best Wishes To All
    Steve Priest

...Mick Tucker has also passed on a message to Home SWEET Home basically saying that he too feels uncomfortable with the situation and has also decided not to attend the tribute.

...more details over the next few days...

Mal McNulty out of hospital - 12.5.98
News has reached me recently that Mal McNulty recently had to go into Hospital for a short period due to a chest infection. He's out now and on the mend. So I'm sure everyone wishes him a speedy recovery!

    Chad Brown leaves A.S.Sweet! - 28.4.98
It has been confirmed by Andy that Chad Brown - lead singer with A.S.Sweet - has left the band.

The move comes closely after Chad had to return home halfway through the band's latest German tour following throat problems. It seems that due to Chad's personal and business commitments an amicable decision was made that Chad should leave. Currently Jeff has taken over most of the lead vocals, but there are no immediate plans to bring in a replacement for Chad.
