I didn't get there until just before 12 midday to find many fans milling about outside the venue waiting to get in - many familiar faces!
So, as I was to be demonstrating 'Sweet on The Internet', with this site, and the front pages of every other site available, I had to do some rapid setting up of tables,
finding power, and getting the PC organised! I had hoped to stage a live 'Andy Scott question / answer session' over the WWW, but was thwarted by
the venue not being able to let me take over the single 'phone line due to Fire Regulations! (By the way - the answers to all your questions should be back with me shortly).
For those who've not been there, the Robin Hood Club has a fairly large room at the back of the club/pub - enough to hold 300 - 400 people. By the time I was setting up, everything else was already ready to go. Several stands selling CD's, Records, T-Shirts, Video's etc, etc. A video screen, that throughout the day showed various videos from the '70's (All That Glitters etc.) and also the recent and notorious programme from Channel 4 on Brian. Some other rare footage was also screened of promo stuff on later singles like Sixties Man etc.
Eventually everything was ready, A S Sweet had done a sound check and we're happy, and the doors were opened. Throughout the afternoon, there was a steady stream of people through the event, making their way back out to the pub for something to eat and drink. Soon, A S Sweet were on stage and first, Andy read out a message from Mick Tucker explaining how much he wished he could be there, but was still feeling too unwell to risk attending. Both Andy and Mick also wanted the day to be a celebration and rememberance of Brian's unique talent.
Soon we were all treated to a marvellous set of various songs 'done rather differently'! Turn It Down, Sixties Man, Windy City etc, with even the great Mal McNulty joining them for several songs including X Ray Specs. One nice touch, Cos Cimino was thanked by Andy on stage for all the hard work involved in getting the covention organised and his dedication over the years with CUTR and he was presented with a Silver Disk given to Andy by Polygram for the recent 'Ballroom Blitz' CD.
It was a superb set, and afterwards all the band came out to sign autographs onto anything put infront of them. The rest of the afternoon was spent chatting to all the band and anything 'SWEET'.

How A S Sweet could improve on the afternoon gig was beyond me, but they did and we were all honoured by such a superb performance, with Windy city again! It's so good not just to see a great band playing so well together, but also to see that they all clearly enjoy doing it!

What a Day! If Cos is going to do it again next year - I don't know how he's going to top this!
Okay - here's Steve Wood's photo's:

Thanks Steve!
